"He found Mariketa lying on her side in the lean-to, one arm folded under her head. Her other arm was raised, with a huge spider lumbering over her glowing hand. She absently regarded it with brilliant, mirrored eyes.
Those ominous vines grew in profusion, twisting in dense layers over the lean-to as if defensively, and the entire platform was surrounded by beasties-iguanas, frogs, snakes, deer mice, and coatimundi made up a creeping moat. In the canopy directly above her, territorial howler monkeys sat unusually poised and watchful, sharing their limbs with owls."

From Kresley Cole's "Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night" - by far my favorite author ever, and my favorite book in her Immortals After Dark series.
I'm getting a chance to MEET Kresley in January, and I really wanted to give her some fanart!
I did this first in pencil on watercolor paper, then painted it with watercolor and a touch of acrylic, with the outlines done again in pen (I'm an illustrator, I can't help it!)
Lots and lots of references used for pose, animals and greenery. From start to finish, at least 10 hours of work.
So much yes. I can't tell you HOW MUCH I wanted to see this scene of Mari. If I could draw it would be the first thing I did lol! It's such a shame her books don't have the respect and acknowledgment they deserve! Awesome work ^^ ~X~
I know! Well, we can just love her and because we're awesome it'll be like double the attention lol.#! Sorry, I'm a little sleepless, but love the work! ^^ ~X~
Gorgeous! You've definitely captured the sassy that is Mariketa. Love that you included little details like the compact and the apples. Beautiful work!
